Meet the New Spring Team

As Spring grows, so does our team. It’s about time you got to know the people behind all the new and exciting things happening at Spring.

Mari Mathews – Funding Facilitator

Mari began her career working internationally for 10+ years in the ski & tourism industry in the areas of business development, marketing and partnerships. In Oslo, Norway she co-founded Outtt raising over 4 million NOK and driving the company to over 70,000 monthly active users. Now back in her hometown of Vancouver, Mari devotes her time to helping entrepreneurs navigate raising capital for early stage growth. She defines impact as “leaving the world in a better place than you found it”.

Favourite quote and why:

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Mari embodies this quote, as she found herself in a new country where she was not fluent in the language yet started her own business. Mari had a dream and followed her intuition which made her the successful entrepreneur she is today.

Why Spring:

Mari spent a decade in Scandinavia and dove into the Norwegian tech startup ecosystem. Norwegian views on impact, ethics, and sustainability inspired her to bring those ideologies back to her hometown of Vancouver and found values alignment with Spring.

How she hopes to help Spring entrepreneurs:

Mari brings insight on being an international entrepreneur and shares her relatability in raising capital, working with investors, and making impact global. Her insight, kind heart and inspiring attitude will guide your business to success.

Hidden superpower:

Ask the Spring team and they will tell you that Mari has a superpower ability to inspire us to reach our dreams. She calls this superpower ‘Mari Math’: where there is a will, there’s a way. That negotiation and connection have the power to transform your world and make any dream possible.

Madison Roberts – Business Operations and Community Development

Madison is a passion driven and value focused political scientist who strives to make equal opportunity a reality. Her contagious personality and grassroots-centred worldview will make you feel welcomed into our Spring community. At Spring, she supports current members, nurtures our ecosystem, and helps entrepreneurs navigate their next steps. Her system-level way of thinking supports our business operations, coordination and community development. Her passion, other than Spring of course, is decolonizing Canada through education, volunteering and advocating for anti-colonial policy. She defines impact as “where our passion and output meet; where we apply our natural strengths to create change”.

Favourite quote and why:

“Time is a construct, in relativity everything flows, no past or present, only the now” – Kate Atkinson

Madison looks at the world from a bird’s eye view, looking at where everyone is and where everyone is going. Wisdom is collecting the strength from all of time and applying it to the now.

Why Spring:

Madison has big dreams to make the world a better place and she knew that she needed to start by learning how we can change it one step at a time. Her policy-driven, system-level thinking needed real world experience and when she found Spring, a company using business as a force for good, she knew it was a perfect fit.

How she hopes to help Spring entrepreneurs:

Madison holds down the fort at Spring by being the go-to for entrepreneurs to find their way and the resources that will help them flourish. Her keen eye for detail, strong sense of community and her inspiring story allows her to relate to each company and their mission.

Hidden superpower:

Madison is small but mighty; she was known as the littlest bodyguard while managing the McGill campus bar. Her presence is undeniable. She is strong, driven and will solve any problem you throw at her. If she was a superhero she would be Ant Woman.

Tiffany Shen – IMPACT Startup Visa Program Coordinator

Tiffany is an entrepreneur, consultant and creative strategist. Her professional interests include consulting, teaching, networking and helping startups. Coming from a background of grassroots business journeys, Tiffany uses creative strategy and solutions to start and grow businesses. At Spring, she helps entrepreneurs start and grow their social impact businesses. Outside of Spring, she can be found roaming in the mountains, growing KAPOW NOW!, a Vancouver based health food company, or diving into projects around wellness, AI and outdoors lifestyle. She defines impact as “leaving a positive mark, intentionally or not, on the world”.

Favourite quote and why:

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” – African proverb.

Tiffany has made waves doing things by herself but in her journey, she has learnt that your team is what holds you together and keeps you together.

Why Spring:

Tiffany was the odd (wo)man out in her business class, or so she thought, and wanted to use business as a force for good. When she found Spring, she felt like she found the niche where she could align her business skills with her social consciousness.

How she hopes to help Spring entrepreneurs?

In her role at Spring, Tiffany helps international entrepreneurs launch their companies in Canada. She walks them through a four-month program that leaves them prepared to succeed in the Canadian market.

Hidden superpower:

Tiffany’s secret superpower is being the Swiss army knife of entrepreneurship. Her experience in starting her own companies has shown she has the skills to re-duct a warehouse (who knew that was a thing?), run a kitchen and find time to create new healthy recipes. She climbs mountains, literally, and takes on every project without fear.

Spring empowers its entrepreneurs to build better business with training, tools, advisory services, mentoring, and access to capital. These amazing women bring the passion and expertise to carry out our mission. Say hello to these ladies and welcome them into our ecosystem.
