Christine Gabardo, Co-Founder & CTO

Dr. Christine Gabardo is the Co-Founder and CTO of CERT Systems Inc. She received her B.Eng (’11) and PhD (’16) from McMaster University, then went on to complete an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto focused on developing efficient and scalable electrochemical CO2 reduction devices. In 2019, she co-founded CERT Systems Inc. and led the technical team in the finals of the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE competition. 20 million ton of virgin rubber is produced every year to make new tires. Circular Rubber Technologies converts the rubber in end of life industrial tires into a rubber reclaim that substitutes virgin rubber material. We provide tire manufacturers a high quality alternative to virgin rubber at significantly lower CO2 emissions and stable cost levels. CRT’s proprietary process is clean and produces a rubber reclaim with physical properties suitable for the use in tires with significantly higher properties than the competition. Our team combines decades of experience in rubber recycling, capital project management and venture backed scaleups. We have proven our concept and produced around 1,000 KG of rubber reclaim. We raised 0.5M USD earlier this year, which will be used to produce reclaim at commercial scale during the fall of 2021 and fully de-risk our technology. A significant portion of the production is pre-sold to several tire manufacturers.

In Canada, options for childcare are varied, ranging from nanny and babysitter services, home daycares, daycare centres, preschool programs, and before and after school services. Finding the most appropriate childcare arrangement is challenging. Parents must often balance the need between the overall quality, convenience, availability and cost of childcare. For newcomers, their childcare challenges are magnified as they are facing various challenges & barriers trying to find work, dealing with immigration processes and simply trying to get ahead in Canada. Mino Care, formally known as Mommy Monitor Incorporated has been rebranded to reflect the community that we serve and the ideals that we represent. Mino is a term in the Fon Language (Niger-Congo language) that was used to describe the Dahomey Amazons. The Dahomey Amazons were an all female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey (modern day Benin). Solving Plastic Waste – 600,000 tonnes of gift wraps, stationery, and office supply generate non-recyclable waste because the paper is poly-coated, laminated, have microplastics. All this enters Canadian landfills, produces toxins at incinerations, and/or is shipped to Asia increasing carbon footprint and polluting the planet’s fragile ecology.

Harvest System’s technology harvests and recycles waste heat in order to reduce operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective and scalable way. Currently, the company is focused on the $4.6 billion dollar restaurant industry, where the platform acts as a drop-in replacement for traditional water heaters. Using a novel attachable heat reclaimer, waste heat is captured directly from commercial cooking appliances, such as ovens and fryers, and stored in a hot water tank without affecting safety and performance and resulting in an average 2 year payback. The technology was born out of a $1.7M research collaboration between McMaster University, Pizza Pizza Limited, and Enbridge Gas.

The traditional framework and margins of commercial farming operations severely constrain the ability to develop and test novel technologies and techniques.

Small changes within a small/medium-sized business can require multiple years to validate and often prevent them from implementing the very systems they need to succeed and contribute to the growth of the area as a whole.

One problem we are currently focused on is that for small to medium agricultural producers around BC, both packaging and labeling represent a significant barrier to entry into the market.
Customized containers require a major upfront investment, often enough to prevent companies from testing new product ideas, let alone getting them in the retail stream.

Poket’s clients (NGOs, researchers, governments, etc.) procure our solution and configure the tools for their respective countries and data collection projects. Then, they put our solution in the hands of their data contributors in the field. These contributors can be anyone – farmers, community health workers, research participants, citizens, etc. Our software empowers them to self-report and access community-based data, driven by gamification and incentives. This new process makes monitoring & evaluation / data collection cheaper, faster and less extractive than traditional means of surveying, and creates information feedback loops back into communities.
